A Brief History of Mi Casa

In 1976, eight Head Start mothers living west Denver founded what would become Mi Casa Resource Center. They did not have a name for it just then, but they had a clear vision of its purpose as a place for women who wanted more for themselves and their families. They sought a safe and supportive environment where women could complete their education and acquire new employment skills while their children received help and encouragement in school. By 1978, there was a name for this vision - Mi Casa Resource Center for Women.

Mi Casa is not a shelter for the homeless or women in abusive relationships. We refer individuals to other organizations in the area that specialize in these types of services.

Mi Casa is not a legal organization and has no attorneys on staff. However, on the third Tuesday of each month, Mi Casa hosts Legal Night from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at 360 Acoma Street. Lawyers from the Colorado Lawyers Committee and the Denver Bar Association Young Lawyers Division come and meet with members of the public to answer their personal legal questions free of charge.

Attorneys meet with people on a first-come, first-served basis - so arrive early!

Spanish-speaking attorneys are available.
